Why Innerancy Matters

Is God Knowable?

“Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations.” (Exodus 3:13– 15, ESV)

“And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”” (Jeremiah 31:34, ESV)

Is God Trustworthy?

“The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy;” (Psalm 111:7, ESV)

“I am the LORD. I have spoken; it shall come to pass; I will do it. I will not go back; I will not spare; I will not relent; according to your ways and your deeds you will be judged, declares the Lord GOD.”” (Ezekiel 24:14, ESV)

Apart from an inerrant Scripture, God is a human construct. He ceases to be Objectively defined by Himself and becomes Subjectively defined by what individual humans make him to be

At that point we humans can make god anything that we want him to be…

• “My god wouldn’t do _____.”

• My god is a loving god

• My god would never send anyone to hell

• God is on our side God becomes as untrustworthy as we because we create and shape him.

BUT God is Trustworthy 

Because the Scripture is inerrant we have an accurate picture of who God is

Is there Hope?

“If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.” (1 Corinthians 15:19, ESV)
